/ Two Bullocks on a Boat in Eire

Midleton

Ireland, 21. June 2022
What a beautiful way to start the summer solstice. So pleased I had cramp in the early hours, and got up to witness this.
This is a beautiful spot with birdsong all around. Herons are nesting in the trees surrounding the marina, and large mullet swim around the boat.
We decided to take the tender over to the Midleton side of the river and walk to the church.
Holy Trinity Church was consecrated in 1867. It is built of grey limestone and red sandstone in the French Gothic style.
We couldn’t get in! Apparently it has a simple nave and chancel.
There is a single road that runs along the river, which is very quiet.
East Grove House across the water on Great Island was built in the early 19th century by the Bagwell family in the Cottage Tudor style. First ‘cottage’ we’ve seen with it’s own pontoon, mini harbour, folly, library, tennis courts, swimming pool and guest accommodation.
The ferry over to East Ferry ran for at least 360 years, and the ferry rights are still intact.
A lovely walk below the tree branches…
….up to where the Ballynacorra River widens.
Beautiful dog roses lined the route.
And we spotted buzzards above (not my photo).
Changing shoes for the paddle to the dinghy.
As we haven’t used the outboard for a few years, Kevin had a few things to work out and remember.
Coming back in the sunshine, we thought a swim might be a good idea.
By the time we reached the beach on foot, typically it clouded over and the wind came up.
But we still decided to ‘freeze the fear’!
Another first in a long time; cooking off the back of the boat. Chargrilled vegetables, griddled sausages and mustard mayo potatoes.
Another beautiful evening with just the voices and splash of oars from the rowers going up and down on the opposite side.
