Arrived at the Gemfields west of Emerald in the arvy. Staying at a great camp in Rubyvale famed for its green, blue and yellow sapphires and zircons.. not rubies !! As all the fossick places close early, we grabbed a bag from Terry the van park guy to start our search for gems ! They were pre washed so it was just a matter of sorting thru. A few drinks at the pub which was down the road and a very popular roastie finished our first day!
Over the next few days we fossicked at Miners Cottage, Armsfest and Pats Gems.. all of them give you a bucket of dirty gemmy goodness which you then sieve to separate the big ones from the little and then use your tweezers to pick out the gems. Was great fun and very addictive! We found heaps.. not any big ones tho! Nights were spent chitchatting at the camp fire, dodging potaroos and state of origin in the camp kitchen.
