Venice

Breakfast in the fog, anchored in the Gulf of Venice
We travelled 220 sea miles overnight from Split to Venice. We travelled a total of 1,748 sea miles (3,237 km) on this 8 day Adriatic / Mediterranean cruise.

Arrived in Venice at 8am. The end to a perfect cruise. No wait! Venice is covered in fog. We had to anchor outside of Venice in the Gulf of Venice and wait for the fog to lift. The fog was so dense that the harbour and airport were closed. Finally at 2:30pm the ship was given permission to start slowly moving in. We arrived and disembarked about 4pm. It was sad to leave the friends we made on the ship. Hopefully they will visit us in Australia.

Got to our hotel about 6pm by taking the monorail 1.50 Euro each) to the Santa Lucia Railway Station and then the #1 waterbus (7.50 Euro each) to Ca d'Ora terminal.

We settled into our room in Alloggi Santa Sofia Hotel, went for a walk and stopped at Barababao Restaurant for beer and pizza then moved on a gelato bar then nougat from a cake store.

Next to St Mark's Square and photos of the Basilica in fog. Piazza San Marco is the principal public square of Venice. The Basilica of St (Byzantine architecture), the Campanile (Basilica' clock tower) (Torre dell'Orologio completed in 1499), dominate the Piazza.
