Germany, Worpswede

, 24. September 2017
Worpswede, an artist village.
After breakfast we drove 20km to Worpswede a quaint and pretty artist village. Worpswede is a municipality in the district of Osterholz, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated in the Teufelsmoor, northeast of Bremen. The small town itself is located near the Weyerberg hill. It has been the home to a lively artistic community since the end of the 19th century, with over 130 artists and craftsmen working here. The glass blowing artist created patterns on her items using stencils. Very beautiful.

Next we drove 5km to Neu Helgoland. Beautiful green and lush countryside with lakes, rivers and migrating Bläsganz, geese from Norway on their way to Southern Spain for the winter. We walked 16km in the pleasant 15 degree day! We walked to Brinkhof, a remote cafe with the most amazing homemade cakes and ornate crockery. I had the Apfelschmand, Ron the Schlosstorte mit Eierlikör and Horst the Pflaumenkuchen. We arrived at 2pm and were the second guests but by the time we left every table was full.

Back to the car and home. Ron and I did some washing and started to pack for England. For Vesper we had Weißwurst, Käse, Brot, Senf, Leberwurst and of course beer.

German elections today. Polling closed at 6pm. By 6:45pm they were announcing that Angela Merkel had won but lost 7% of votes.
