Our second destination was Dunmore East, 15 nautical miles from the Saltees, recommended by Kimberley and Alan.
Rounding Hook Head.
Approaching Dunmore East we were radioed by Rosslare Coastguard. Using the wonders of AIS, they’d seen our position and contacted us because children had been blown away from the beach on a Lidl pink blow-up. Fortunately almost immediately the local lifeboat found the youngsters and the dinghy.
After that little drama we then had to circle around back at sea because the motor boat who was meant to have left the sailing club pontoon, hadn’t! He was good to his ‘five minutes’ though, and we were able to tuck on the end, and, therefore, didn’t have to raft against another boat.

It’s quite a walk to the harbour office, but very friendly staff and good facilities.
Dunmore East is a lovely town with lots of steps leading down to beaches and coves and pretty thatched cottages.
After a lovely Italian meal at the Azzurro Restaurant we wandered back along the main street with the sun setting.
