Mto Wa Mbu

Tanzania, 11. February 2018
We left Ilboru Lodge at 08:30 and went into Arusha to change a few dollars into Tanzanian Shillings and then set off for Lake Manyara National Park. On the way, we stopped at a Massai Village to see how they live. It was a bit touristy but quite interesting as they are still a semi-nomadic people, moving to a new location every couple of years.

We checked into our accommodation at the Manyara Wildlife Safari Park and had lunch before setting off to view the area. After lunch Hulley discovered that the sole was falling off his left trainer and found a man in the lodge who said he could glue it back together if we left the shoe with him.

Next, we spent three hours driving around the National Park where, for the first time, we saw many animals in large numbers. Among others, we saw Elephants, Zebras, Wildebeest, Baboons, Monkeys, Impalas, Wart Hogs and many types of birds including Bee Eaters, Herons and Ibis. At the end of the day we looked out to the edge of the lake where there was a lone zebra and behind it a line of pink flamingos who we later found out had migrated that very evening.

It had been a very long day and very hot in the Toyota Landcruiser. The day had been full-on so there had been very little free time. When we returned to the lodge, we picked up the repaired trainer, had a quick but much-needed shower and went to dinner.
