Our last day in Bremen. Our last breakfast with Horst.
We finished packing our bags. Washed our bed linen and towels.
Horst drove us to Fischerhude about 40km out of Bremen. Fischerhude is a village located next to the Wümme river in northern Germany between Bremen and Hamburg. Fischerhude is part of the municipality of Ottersberg, in the district of Verden. It is well known as an art colony where artists like Otto Modersohn and Clara Westhoff used to work and live.
A beautiful quaint township. Very green pastures and farmlands. Pretty cottages and well kept gardens. Some of the roads were just cobble stones. We walked to Ottersberg and back. A 10km walk through lush fields, corn crop fields and sheep and cattle pastures. The houses and gardens along the walking track were beautiful. Many with entrances into the River Wümme and pergolas at the waters edge. The ducks on the river were very colourful with green necks. The weather started off sunny but cool, about 14 degrees, and changed to wet and very windy. We were rained on in the last 400 metres. This path is also part of the Santiago pilgrim Camino path.
We went to lunch at Berkelmann Restaurant in Fischerhude. A stunning decor with a different colour theme in each dining room. Fabulous food. I had Ente (duck) orange with red cabbage, dumplings and pear with cranberry. Ron had curry chicken with rice, banana and pineapple. Horst had Pork fillet with Pfifferlinge mushrooms, spaetzle and salad.
Back to Bremen to make sure we don't miss our plane to Brussels. One last walk in the city. We stopped for coffee and cake at Cafe Knigge (established 1889). Ron and Horst had Apricot Brandy cake and I had Apricot Vanilla custard cake.
Off to Bremen airport to catch the 7pm Brussels Airline jet to Brussels. Still waiting at the airport. 40 minute delay so far.
