The start of our Santiago Compostela Camino trek. Logrono to Burgos in five days. Hotel Condes de Haro.
Buen Camino.

Day 1 of our 5 day Camino.

Yesterday the hussle and bussle, pollution, constant stream of smokers, noise and extravagance of Madrid. Today the serenity, undulating fields, vineyards and history of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage.

A late night last night, after midnight, so we slept in this morning. Our first day walking on the Camino did not start until 10am.

The pilgrimage route from France has remained without interruption since the 9th century after news of the alleged findings of the remains of the Apostle St James were kept in the church at Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Two years ago we stopped our Santiago de Compostela walk at Logrono so today we continue where we left off, Hotel Condes de Haro. We left Logroño through the Puerta del Camino, an arch through the old town wall.

Ron carrying a 14kg backpack and Susie. 7kg backpack. During the trek we changed so Ron had 12kg and I carried 9kg. Unfortunately my backpack is broken. The back sags and the bend pushes into my back causing bruises. Ron strapped it with his belt.
