Arrived in Dublin about 2pm. Our Hyde Court B&B was right next to a Europcar centre. We decided to pay the 34 Euros to drop it off there instead of at the airport.

We settled in and went for a short 10 minute walk to Trinity College, which was founded by charter of Queen Elizabeth in 1592.
There was a snaking line to get in to see the Book of Kells however we went online and bought our tickets instead and only had to wait 15 minutes (half hourly entrance). The tickets were concession, 10 Euros each, because it was after 3pm. A fascinating self guided tour. The Book of Kells was written over 1000 years ago. It contains the four gospels written in Latin and lavishly decorated. It was probably produced in the 9th century by the monks of Iona who moved to Kells after 806 AD. The Book was sent to Dublin for safe keeping in 1653.

There are other gospel manuscripts housed in the Treasury, the Book of Armagh, the Book of Durrow, Durham Gospels and pocket gospels.

We went into the city and stopped at the Vat House Temple Bar for dinner and the ruby red Guinness Beer of course. We created our own walking tour, Dublin Castle, St Patrick's Tower (Dublin Windmill 1750), Town Hall and walked along the River Liffey back to the busy Temple Bar district and the Vat House Pub for beer and listening to Irish live music. The band sang 'a pub with no beer' for us.
Dublin Centre is always busy. Evenings are jumping with activity and live bands in every pub.

Got up early to walk 30 minutes to the Guinness Storehouse for our 9am tour. We bought the tickets online for 20 Euro each.

Arthur Guinness started the Guinness brewery over 250 years ago. He signed a 9000 year lease for the brewery. The Guinness Storehouse is an amazing 6 storey building designed in the shape of a giant pint of Guinness. It is a fascinating self guided journey through the making of Guinness, how casts have been made, a history of advertising and how their beer has made its way around the world. We had two tastings, Guinness on the second floor and our own choice of a pint at the top in the Gravity Bar with its 360 view of Dublin. I drank the 13 Hops Lager and Ron had another Guinness.
