/ Two Bullocks on a Boat Go West

Ireland, 20. June 2023
Pouring with rain as we awoke, but by the time we were ready, and had visited the pontoon to take on water and remove rubbish, the sun was trying to break through.
Our route was for Carthy’s Island through The Sound between Sherkin Island and Spainish Island. The pilot book talks of many navigational difficulties, but with little wind and good visibility we thought we’d try it. The ferries and other boats use it frequently too.
Looking back on Barrack and Beacon Points.
It was a lovely meander through the little islets. Without charts, we could see you could easily be led astray, especially diverting up the River Ilen, but we just enjoyed the views.
Seals and cormorants sunning on a rock.
As we rounded Toorane Rocks we hoisted the sails.
The sun also shone, so I was overdressed in my raincoat!
Roaringwater Bays.
We decided against anchoring near Carthy’s Island, and instead headed past the Calf (Calves?) Islands for the other side of Long Island going through the gap between Long and Goat Islands.
Tower on the end of Little Goat Island.
Goat Island.
Mount Gabriel in the distance.
Passaging between Goat and Long Islands.
A beautiful lunch spot in Croagh Bay near Coney Island.
Our only company a persistent seagull patiently waiting for some of our lunch.
A red sailed dinghy having fun sailing past Coney Island.
