Early arrival in Dürres, Albania. First tours started at 7:30am. We walked into the city about 8:30am. We walked along the esplanade toward the resort area with their private beaches. Then into the city and along the Main Street to the Mosque and Central Plaza.
Durrës is a port city on the Adriatic Sea in western Albania, west of the capital, Tirana. It’s known for its huge Roman amphitheater. Nearby is a 9th-century church with mosaic-covered walls. The Archaeological Museum displays pieces from the Greek, Hellenistic and Roman periods. Broad Durrësi Beach has shallow waters. Nearby is the former summer villa of 20th-century King Zog.
We walked to the Roman Forum and the Roman Amphitheatre. We paid 3 Euro each to go inside the Amphitheatre and walk along the underground tunnels once used by the gladiators.
Then back along the Main Street and stopped for coffee at Mon Cherie Cafe then Los Locos Restaurant for Pizza and Antipasto and Cappuccinos.
Back to the ship for embarkation at 3:30pm.
