Day 5, our final day, walking the Camino.
A 25km walk from San Juan de Ortega to Ages to Arlanzon to Atapuerca to Cardenuela Riopico to Orbaneja Riopico to Castanaras to Burgos.
We started early and got away at 8pm. A pretty walk up toward Villafria. The last 12km into Burgos can be taken either through industry and along freeways with semi trailers whizzing past or around the airport security fences and eventually along the river. Both ways are the worst part of walking the Camino and many people take a bus or taxi instead. We took the River route to Castanares instead of Villafria and were disappointed to find ourselves walking in dust around the airport.
We stopped for breakfast in Ages and shared a table with Camino friends Ben and Nika from Canada (Philipino heritage).
We settled into our Hostal riMboMbin. An excellent location wedged between the Cathedral and the Plaza Mayor. Very clean with excellent facilities and Bar/Restaurant.
We ate dinner at Restaurante Casino in Plaza Mayor with the Cathedral as our backdrop.
We viewed the entrance to the Cathedral. Catedral de Santa María de Burgos is a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It's construction began in 1221 with major changes in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Sacristy or the Chapel of Saint Thecla was constructed in the 18th century.
