We is in Rio Tinto country! The 16th marks an official 6 months of travels! 6 months of embracing life on the road (some days not so enthusiastically!!)..not knowing what the day will bring.. but best thing we have eva done!
Drove to town of Karratha .. iron ore mining town.. very similar to Port Hedland. Parked van at Paul and PK's place in their front yard ! Drinkies and an awesome home cooked Thai followed! Next day, Paul took us on his scenic tour! Wickham (a rio tinto town), Cossack and Dampier (famous for Red Dog) where we had a sunset Barbie. On weekend we checked out Point Samson staying at the park. Friday night drinks n meat raffles at Samson Beach Tavern.. tiny, busy but does the job !
On the Sunday we moved back to Karratha as Steve picked up 2 days work. Nice quiet park! Biked into town for arvy sesh at Blanches and then Tambrey Tavern for din dins. (Karratha tav was a no go zone where the undesirables hang out!)
On Wed, we did a let's hit everything into one day trip !! Took a big drive out to Python Pool at the base of Chichester Range in Millstream Nat Park. We saw heaps of wild flowers on this drive..(oh no ..turning into grey nomad !!) Python Pool is a freshwater plunge pool that Steve luvd. Then off to Hearsons Cove at Burrup Peninsula .. pretty shelly beach where we had lunch and Steve caught no fish ! Next stop was Deep Gorge which apparently is one of the best spots to view didgee rock art in Australia. Trekked a few hundred meters over these rocks and boulders and we think we found some! Last stop was checking out the North West Shelf project which is the base for the largest oil and gas production in Oz.. pretty amazing!
